Victims of
International Terrorism
vs.
Victims of State Terrorism
"Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely".
Lord Acton (British historian)
Our sympathies and prayers go out to the innocent victims of the
disaster of Tuesday 11 September. The persons who perished had absolutely no control
over the causes, which motivated the perpetrators of this horrendous deed. Life to
whomsoever it belong is precious regardless of the nationality, race, or religion.
Human lives are not evaluated on the basis of the per capita income of the nation
from which they come. While contemplating on the victims of this disaster and the
poignant plight of their loved ones let us pause to remember also victims of other acts of
International terrorism.
In Kenya, East Africa in 1998 numerous innocent people were
killed and maimed. For decades the Palestinian people have been living in a state of
political and economic siege. We cannot forget the 58,000 American soldiers who
perished in the Vietnam War. Let us not forget also the thousands of Vietnamese
soldiers who were killed trying to defend their country against International terrorism,
the innocent men women and children who were murdered in cold blood, the unsuspecting
victims of carpet bombing and the tens of thousands of children who were born with
deformities as a consequence of the aerial spraying of herbicides as an act of war.
Our sympathies should also go out to those innocent victims of acts of covert and
overt operations of International terrorism in the Balkans. How many of us know that
nearly 500,000 infants have died in Iraq due to the lack of medicines as a result of the
sanctions imposed.
Let us now spare a moment to turn to reflect on the millions of victims massacred,
tortured, raped, oppressed and deprived as a consequence of State Terrorism.
Let us remember the millions of helpless Jews who were tortured and massacred in Nazi
Germany. Let us think of the millions of persons killed during Stalins regime
in the Soviet Union. Let us not forget the millions of people massacred in Indonesia
and East Timor during the Suharto regime. In Sri Lanka during the past decades
thousands of Thamils have been killed in State sponsored pogroms and by the Armed Forces.
Rape, torture, disappearances, numerous infant deaths and deprivation through
embargo of essential items are an every day occurrence. car sales mean prices new cars dealers in the United Kingdom
Our attention should be drawn to the victims of torture, massacre and murder in Chile
under Pinochet, in the Republic of Congo under Mobutu, in Uganda under Idi Amin, in
Cambodia under Pol Pot. We should think of the Kurds in Turkey. cars option car rental deals denver budget tariffs
The human race should put their heads down in shame for the massacre of millions of
innocent people in Rwanda and the neighboring parts in Africa. The so-called
civilized world has no claim to call itself civilized when we did very little to those
millions of Africans who died of famine, hunger and starvation. They died by the
minute as an indirect result of State terrorism. Children watched their parents die
and with all their meagre strength helped them to be carried to their shallow graves while
waiting for their turn to be carried to their graves. vente machine a sous
It will take many years to erase from our memories the scars of State terrorism under
the Apartheid regime in South Africa where the people on account of their dark skin had to
endure untold misery, privation, humiliation and oppression.
State terrorism is borne of absolute power and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
The terrorist state uses its absolute power in targeting its victims and this in
turn begets absolute powerlessness amongst its victims.
If retaliation is the answer to International terrorism then what should be the
response from the absolutely powerless victims to State terrorism?
